Wii Fit Tops Japanese Charts For Fourth Week

Friday, February 1st, 2008 | Games

Nintendo’s Wii Fit continues to dominate post-New Year sales in Japan, although it achieves the number one position with just 89,000 unit sales. Nevertheless, this pushes its lifetime total to almost 1.3 million units in Japan.
Next week’s charts will see the impact of the launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Devil May Cry 4, the year’s first major new titles in Japan, but for now the biggest new release of the week is the PSP version of World Soccer Winning Eleven 2008 (aka Pro Evolution Soccer 2008) at number two, with 77,000 units sold.

A number of niche releases have taken advantage of the quiet retail period with the second highest new entry being anime license Lucky * Star on PlayStation 2 at number three, with 72,000 units sold.

Nintendo DS baseball simulator Dorabase: Dramatic Stadium re-enters the top fifty at number eight, after stock problems last December, with 20,000 units sold.

The final new entry of the week, at number nine, is one of three PSP titles in the top ten: a version of 2006 Game Boy Advance title Yggdra Union, which sold 17,000 units.
